This is a classic M193 cartridge; The “X” prefix indicates nothing more than that Federal made it for the civilian market, not our troops. As such it features a 55 grain bullet with the gilding metal jacket that promotes smooth feeding and little bore fouling. This bullet further includes a boat tail, a tapered base that reduces how much drag it produces in flight to keep its trajectory flat and protect it from wind drift.
Is this round’s bullet optimized for self-defense, in the strictest sense? No, as an FMJ isn’t designed for terminal expansion. Is this round’s bullet the same that the U.S. Army would utilize to engage a threat? Absolutely, which is why you’ll find this case of ammo as good a solution for the range as you would very dark times.
Federal’s American Eagle cartridges are as staple as it gets. These rounds’ new production brass casings are uniform for easy cycling, and supple for clean shooting and ongoing reloadability. Their Boxer primers are sensitive, non-corrosive, and snugly socketed, and their propellant burns clean to produce a nearly Mach 3 muzzle velocity. This is exactly the stuff AR handlers need to practice their art.
This ammo is loose packed – once you’ve opened the case, it’s as opened as it’s possible for it to get. We think that’s great for situations where you may not necessarily feel like peeling open dozens of smaller boxes in a hurry.
