This round’s jacketed hollow point bullet doesn’t have any fancy bells and whistles: no bonded jacket, no polymer insert. It’s really just an excellent example of the tried and true JHP, with a concentrically laid copper jacket, smooth nose profile and uniform lead core. The jacket has got notches surrounding its tip. These help it peel back along clean, even lines while the bullet fans outward inside its target. That’s all it needs to achieve double-diameter expansion, accompanied by the high weight retention that secures a deep wound channel.
This is a 40 S&W cartridge, which is to say it is a powerful cartridge. At 100 yards its 180 grain JHP retains 334 ft lbs kinetic energy, which is to say its power is sufficient for self-defense beyond the length of a football field. It’s easy to appreciate why so many cops carry 40s!
The Remington name is immensely valuable. It is accordingly placed on high-quality American-made ammunition with reloadable brass cases, sensitive Kleanbore primers and clean-burning propellant.
