5.56×45 62 Grain FMJ M855 – Winchester – 500 Rounds
AR-15 owners love M855 ammunition. These new production 5.56×45 cartridges by Winchester are a great pick for regular old plinking and target practice, but they do something a little extra special that suits them for self-defense as well!
The secret to the M855 round’s multifaceted performance is, quite naturally, its bullet. On the outside the M855 is identical to an FMJ – just a sheer layer of gilding metal that facilitates smooth feeding and low fouling per usual. But the green paint on the 62 grain bullet’s tip indicates that the frontal section of its core is made of steel.
Its steel “penetrator” tip is designed to help the M855 bullet punch through sheet metal at close to mid-range. But because this bullet has two separate metal components to its core, it is also capable of splitting in half as it enters soft tissue – tracking two separate wound channels as the result.
However you choose to implement this round’s magnetic bullet, you’re sure to find great value in Winchester’s bulk ammo. These rounds’ brass cases are brand new. They are gray around their necks and shoulders, but that’s just the byproduct of a heat-treatment process which imbues them with greater suppleness for cleaner ignition and ongoing reloadability. This ammo is non-corrosive and loaded with clean burning propellant.
Looking for range ammo for that AR-15 you just finished piecing together? How about something you could also use for home defense? This 5.56×45 ammunition by Armscor fits both tickets – and we’ve got it by the case!
This is M855 ammunition (or SS109, if you’re not an American). Each round of 5.56 has a 62 grain bullet, which is a little heavier and will fly most accurately after it has exited a barrel with a 1:9 or 1:8 twist (but 1:7 works good enough as well). On the exterior the M855 bullet is functionally identical to an FMJ: a gilding metal jacket that ends in a pointed tip.
That pointed tip is painted green to indicate what’s special about the M855 bullet. The front of this bullet’s lead core contains a steel “penetrator” tip, which helps it defeat sheet metal and other types of barriers. This is why M855 ammo is used by the Army against vehicles and lightly armored targets!
Armscor makes consistent ammo. The ISO 9001 certified Philippine manufacturer gives their ammo responsive Boxer primers, evenly loaded propellant, and reloadable pure brass cases. This ammo’s bullets are magnetic, though, which limits the number of ranges you’re allowed to fire them at.
